Former Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has once again set the Kenyan political world buzzing after posting a cryptic message on X that has sparked widespread speculation about whether former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto may be holding secret meetings in the United States.
Kuria, known for his carefully timed and deliberately provocative social media posts, shared a photo of Ruto and Gachagua holding hands on Friday, accompanied by a message that left Kenyans reading between the lines and drawing their own conclusions about what may be happening behind the scenes on American soil.
The timing of the post could not be more loaded. Gachagua travelled to the United States about a month ago and has since been holding a series of meetings with Kenyans living in the diaspora as he builds momentum for his anticipated presidential run in 2027.
Ruto, on his part, arrived in the US last week to attend the annual United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two men, who have not seen eye to eye since Ruto spearheaded Gachagua’s controversial impeachment in October 2024, are now on the same continent at the same time, and that coincidence alone has been enough to set imaginations running.
This is not the first time Kuria has hinted at a possible behind-the-scenes rapprochement between the two rivals. Before Gachagua departed for the United States, Kuria appeared on Inooro TV and told viewers plainly that a meeting between the two men in America was not just possible but likely, adding that despite their bitter and very public falling out, Ruto and Gachagua might yet find a way to work together ahead of the 2027 presidential election if the political calculations aligned in their favour.
Friday’s cryptic photo post appears to be Kuria doubling down on that prediction, hinting that whatever groundwork he spoke about on Inooro TV may already be in motion.
Whether the photo represents wishful thinking, political mischief or a genuine signal from someone with inside knowledge of what is happening in American hotel rooms this week, only time will tell. But in Kenyan politics, when Moses Kuria posts a photo without explanation, it is rarely an accident.
