Detectives drawn from DCI Garissa have arrested 26-year-old Muhiyadin Abdi Sheikh, the main suspect in the fatal robbery and stabbing of US national Osman Aweys Abdi in Garissa.
The incident occurred on May 28, 2026, when Osman was attacked near Abubeida School in Bulla Mzuri, approximately 5km north of Iftin Police Station.
He sustained a stab wound to the left thigh and was also struck with a blunt object on the left side of the head.
His mobile phone was stolen during the attack.
On the fateful day, Osman’s brother was alerted to the incident by a well-wisher who had obtained his number from the victim.
He rushed to the scene, where he found his brother in pain, and immediately took him to Antalya Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was subsequently moved to Garissa County Teaching and Referral Hospital pending postmortem examination, as DCI detectives commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The suspect subsequently went into hiding, prompting DCI Garissa detectives to mount an intelligence-led operation to trace him.
After several months of pursuit, the detectives tracked him down to a hideout in Kabete, Nairobi, where he was arrested.
The DCI reminds criminals that going into hiding may buy a suspect time—but it does not buy freedom. Our detectives will pursue every lead, follow every trail and uncover every hideout until those sought are brought before the law.
There is no sanctuary for criminals. The DCI does not forget, and no matter how long it takes, justice will find you.
Muhiyadin is currently being held at Kasarani Police Station pend
