Detectives from Gigiri have arrested a suspect who was captured on a viral video violently attacking and robbing a member of the public in Parklands, Nairobi, in an incident that sparked widespread public outrage when the footage circulated on social media.
The suspect, identified as Obed Makori, was tracked down and apprehended along the Northern Bypass after detectives acted on intelligence that directly linked him to the brutal robbery.
The operation brought to an end what had been a tense period of pursuit following the incident, during which Makori had managed to evade arrest and remain at large.
During the robbery itself, the suspect dropped a firearm at the scene, which was immediately recovered by police and secured as an exhibit that will form part of the case against him. The recovery of the weapon adds a chilling dimension to what was already a deeply alarming attack on an innocent member of the public going about his day in broad daylight.
Makori is currently in custody and undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court. Detectives have made clear that the arrest does not mark the end of the investigation. Leads are actively being pursued to identify, track down and apprehend the accomplices who were seen alongside Makori in the viral video and who remain at large.

The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing violent offenders, dismantling criminal networks and ensuring that every person responsible for attacks on innocent Kenyans is brought before the law and made to answer for their actions.
For the Nairobi residents who watched the video with horror, Makori’s arrest is a welcome development and a reminder that the cameras that capture these crimes can also be the instrument of justice that follows.
