Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili, popularly known as Babu Owino, has claimed that his life is in danger following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Wednesday.
Raila Odinga, aged 80, reportedly died of a heart attack while undergoing treatment in India. He is scheduled to be laid to rest on Sunday at his family home.
In a Facebook post shared shortly after attending Raila Odinga’s funeral mass at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, Babu alleged that he had received credible information about plans to attack him either during or before the burial ceremony of the late ODM leader.
The youthful legislator appealed to those plotting harm against him to respect the memory of Raila Odinga and allow him a peaceful send-off instead of orchestrating violence.
“There are plans to attack me on or before the day of Baba’s burial. I am aware of the culprits behind the scheme. It is my prayer that we give Baba the befitting send-off that he deserves, devoid of unwarranted violence,” Babu wrote on Facebook.
According to a reliable source, the alleged mastermind behind the plan to harm Babu Owino is said to be a principal secretary in President William Ruto’s administration, working in collaboration with some ODM insiders who reportedly fear that Babu might emerge as the next political kingpin of the Luo community in the post-Raila era.
