A video has emerged showing former President Uhuru Kenyatta crying uncontrollably following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Raila Odinga, who was in India for specialised treatment, reportedly died of a heart attack on Wednesday morning.

Popularly known as Jakom by his supporters, Raila was among the most respected statesmen Kenya had ever produced. He was widely regarded as the father of democracy in Kenya, celebrated for his relentless fight against social injustice, dictatorship, and bad governance.

During the 2022 presidential election, Raila Odinga was seen as the favourite candidate, enjoying the full support of the then-incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta, who campaigned vigorously for him across the country.

However, Raila was eventually defeated by William Ruto, who successfully used the hustler narrative to appeal to the common citizen. After the election, Uhuru peacefully handed over power to Ruto, but to this day, the Son of Jomo has often declared that Jakom remains his true president.

When Raila Odinga breathed his last, Uhuru was among the first leaders to visit the Odinga family home to offer his condolences.

In a circulating video, Uhuru is seen embracing Mama Ida Odinga and Raila’s daughter, overwhelmed with emotion and crying uncontrollably. The former president could not hide how deeply he loved and respected his longtime friend and political ally.

Here is the video showing Uhuru Kenyatta crying uncontrollably after Raila Odinga’s passing on Wednesday.
