Security agencies at the Coast have arrested suspected members of a notorious criminal gang linked to the recent assault of a shopkeeper in Mtwapa, following an operation led by Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno and his team.
The suspects, believed to be part of the feared “panga gang,” were captured on CCTV footage attacking and robbing the shopkeeper, sparking outrage among residents and renewed concerns over security in the region.
According to reports, the arrests form part of a wider crackdown on criminal gangs operating across Kilifi and Mombasa counties.
Several gang leaders have also been apprehended and are now behind bars as police intensify efforts to dismantle organized crime networks.
Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has welcomed the swift action by the police, terming the response commendable.
He praised Mr. Nuno and his team for their decisive and prompt intervention aimed at restoring security and protecting businesses and residents.
“We must remain vigilant and proactive in strengthening security at the Coast so that lives and livelihoods are protected at all times,” the MP said.
The successful arrests have brought relief to residents, many of whom have been calling for tougher measures to curb rising incidents of gang-related violence.
