Dr Oburu Odinga Begs Babu Owino Not To Ditch ODM—Assures Him Of Nairobi Gubernatorial Ticket In 2027

Acting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader, Dr. Oburu Odinga, has appealed to Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, not to abandon the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In recent months, Babu, a second-term legislator, has repeatedly threatened to quit the Orange party if he is not endorsed by ODM to contest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the upcoming elections.

However, speaking on Tuesday during an interview with Ramogi TV, Dr. Oburu Odinga assured Babu that there was no reason to feel insecure about the party ticket. He emphasised that if Babu wins the nominations fairly, ODM will fully back his bid for the county’s top seat.

Dr. Oburu, who is the elder brother of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, urged Babu to remain patient and not to be influenced by rumours or external pressure.

“Let him not run away. We want the Nairobi governor’s seat to be contested openly. He should not panic because we cannot deny him the ticket—he is our son and a long-time member of ODM,” Oburu said.

He further stated that the party welcomes all strong aspirants and will not impose any candidate on Nairobi voters, affirming that whoever emerges victorious in the primaries will receive ODM’s full support.

“ODM is open to all its members. We want credible, energetic, and visionary leaders to step forward. Babu is one of them, and if he proves himself during nominations, the party will stand firmly with him,” he added.

Dr. Oburu, who also serves as the Siaya County Senator, revealed that he is making personal efforts to reach out to Babu Owino in order to address his concerns and strengthen party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I know I will find him. I have already sent word and emissaries to arrange a meeting. I will talk to him and assure him that there is no need to panic — everything is still fine,” Oburu stated.
