ODM diehard supporter Calvince Okoth, popularly known as Gaucho, has broken his silence following the circulation of viral birthday photos showing him sharing a light moment with Mama Ida Odinga.
The images, which captured Mama Ida feeding Gaucho a piece of cake during his birthday celebration, quickly attracted attention online, with some social media users speculating about the nature of their relationship.
Speaking on Thursday, Gaucho strongly condemned those spreading the photos with what he termed as malicious intentions. He questioned why some individuals would attempt to tarnish reputations simply for clout and online engagement.
Gaucho came to the defense of Mama Ida, describing her as a highly respected figure both in Kenya’s leadership circles and diplomatic spaces.
“Dr. Mama Ida Odinga is a respectable leader in our society. I can only compare her to the late Winnie Mandela,” he stated.
He warned that any attempts to damage Mama Ida’s name through misleading graphics or content creation would not go unchallenged, adding that perpetrators could face legal consequences for reputational harm.
Gaucho further clarified that his relationship with Mama Ida is purely parental, revealing that she has always treated him like a son.
He also shared that he enjoys a cordial bond with the Odinga family and was first introduced to them back in 2013 through Rosemary Odinga.
“Rosemary appointed me chair of the youth volunteer team in Starehe Constituency, and from that time, Baba and Mama Ida have always taken me as their son,” he explained.
Despite his clarification, the birthday photos have continued to spark mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some questioning why Mama Ida was the one feeding him cake instead of a girlfriend or close partner.
The colorful celebration, attended by Mama Ida as a special guest, remains a trending topic online.
