There were emotional scenes at the High Court after a disabled son of the late veteran politician and billionaire, John Keen, broke down while testifying about the suffering he has endured at the hands of his family.
The man, visibly frail, told Justice Hilary Chemitei that he had gone without food for two days and had been completely neglected by his relatives, despite being a legitimate heir to his father’s multi-million-shilling estate.
“I have nothing, My Lord. I’m suffering despite my father being a billionaire,” he said tearfully, revealing that even his wife and child, who live in the United States, had abandoned him.
A visibly moved Justice Chemitei reprimanded the late tycoon’s children, questioning their compassion.
“Where is your humanity, you people? This is unfortunate,” the judge remarked sternly.
John Keen, who died in 2016, left behind vast properties in Nairobi, Kajiado, and other regions. His estate has been at the center of a bitter succession battle pitting his widows and children against each other.
Kenyans online have since expressed outrage, accusing the family of heartless greed and neglect.
