A close associate of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has sensationally claimed that ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is secretly collaborating with President William Ruto to fracture the Mt. Kenya voting bloc ahead of the next general election.
Speaking during a weekend interview on a local radio station, former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament and Jubilee Party Secretary-General, Jeremiah Kioni alleged that Gachagua disclosed details of the plan during a private meeting with a select group of leaders, including members of the clergy.

According to Kioni, the meeting, which reportedly took place in Gachagua’s office, was attended by about 15 people. During the session, Gachagua is said to have openly spoken about ongoing political negotiations initiated by President Ruto through emissaries.
“He said it himself – that Ruto had already sent emissaries, and they had agreed to mobilise their respective support bases before engaging in direct talks,” Kioni revealed.
“I have no reason to doubt it because more than two pastors were present in that meeting. They personally recounted to me what was discussed, including how Gachagua even spoke of sharing the political spoils with other regions such as the Maasai community,” he added.
Kioni further claimed that Gachagua outlined projected vote numbers, suggesting a potential power-sharing arrangement involving Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former CS Fred Matiang’i.
“By that time, I will have seven million votes from the Mt Kenya region, one million from Kalonzo Musyoka, and about 800,000 from Fred Matiang’i. That will give me more than enough leverage, and I will be in a position to share the political cake,” Gachagua reportedly said, according to Kioni.
In addition, Kioni alleged that Gachagua promised Narok Township MCA aspirant, Joshua Ole Kaputa, a future nomination slot despite previously denying him a party ticket.
Gachagua, who also heads the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has in recent months been an outspoken critic of President Ruto’s administration. He has been championing the “Wantam” slogan, a political movement aimed at ensuring Ruto serves only one term in office.
These latest claims by Kioni risk deepening divisions within the opposition and could complicate ongoing efforts to forge a united front against the ruling regime as the country inches closer to the next general election.
