Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki is campaigning in Mbeere North Constituency, urging voters to support the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Leo Wamuthende.
The Mbeere North by-election, scheduled for November 27, has become a two-horse race between Wamuthende and Democratic Party candidate Newton Karish. Wamuthende enjoys the full backing of both Deputy President Kindiki and President William Ruto, with the entire government machinery deployed to secure a victory and avoid a political setback.
However, the contest has intensified, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi campaigning extensively for Newton Karish.
On Tuesday, during a door-to-door engagement with constituents, Kindiki pleaded with them to vote for Wamuthende. He framed the election as a test of his own political strength, asking for a show of support to prove to President Ruto that he remains an influential force in the Mt. Kenya region.
Kindiki went a step further, suggesting that his position in government depends on delivering the Mbeere North seat. He implied that without this support, his value to the administration would diminish.
“Kindly support the UDA candidate to stop President William Ruto from sacking me for not winning the Mbeere North seat,” Kindiki told a crowd, while flanked by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geofrey Ruku.
The Mbeere North parliamentary seat fell vacant following Ruku’s appointment to the Cabinet earlier this year.
