Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has taken his campaign to the doorsteps of voters in Mbeere North Constituency, a strategic shift following a strong grassroots push by his political rivals.

The by-election, scheduled for November 27th, is a direct contest between the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Leo Wamuthende and the Democratic Party’s Newton Karish. Wamuthende enjoys the full backing of Deputy President Kindiki and President William Ruto, with the entire government machinery deployed to secure a victory and avoid a political setback.

However, the race has intensified with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi campaigning extensively for Newton Karish.

In a move that caught the state’s campaign team off-guard, Gachagua abandoned the use of helicopters and convoys on Monday for a surprise door-to-door tour of the constituency.

In a clear effort to match this grassroots tactic, Professor Kindiki was seen on Tuesday descending from his helicopter to engage in his own door-to-door campaign, directly appealing to voters to support the UDA candidate.

Political analysts are now viewing the Mbeere North by-election as a critical litmus test for both the government and the opposition, offering a preview of their potential performance in the 2027 general elections.

The attached photos show Professor Kindiki adopting the new, direct approach to connect with the electorate.
