Nyandarua Senator John Methu has claimed that state operatives approached him after the Ol Kalou by-election, where the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) recorded a strong performance, and offered to fund him to establish his own political party.
According to the vocal Senator, the individuals promised to provide financial and logistical support to help him set up the party, including immediate start-up funding followed by weekly payments of KSh 10 million to finance its activities.
Methu further alleged that the deal included helping the party recruit aspirants across the country and securing donations of campaign materials ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a surprising twist, the Senator claimed the plan involved portraying his party as an opposition outfit by having government figures publicly oppose it, even as they allegedly supported its growth behind the scenes.
However, Methu said he turned down the offer, insisting that he had no ambition of becoming a party leader or seeking a higher political office in 2027.
He maintained that his priority was to defend his Senate seat in the next General Election rather than form a new political party.
Methu also revealed that he later sought out former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and disclosed the details of the alleged approach, including the promises of funding and logistical support.
