A close aide to the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Joho, has been arrested in connection with an international cocaine trafficking syndicate operating through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The aide, identified as Muamar Mutua Mohammed, was apprehended alongside three other suspects by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The other suspects have been named as Rishad Abdulahim Sheikh, his brother Yusuf Mohammed Ajinur, and Adam Omar.
According to preliminary investigations, the four suspects are believed to have ties with a British national who was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London while attempting to smuggle 20 kilogrammes of cocaine into the United Kingdom.

Their arrests followed a damning KTN News exposé, “Cocaine Highway”, which revealed how corrupt airport staff and security officers allegedly collude with international cartels to traffic narcotics through JKIA.
The documentary, which has since caused a national uproar, showed shocking footage of Joho’s aide escorting the British suspect inside JKIA while carrying a bag later confirmed to contain cocaine. The exposé raised grave questions about the integrity of Kenya’s main airport and the extent of infiltration by organised crime networks.
Following the revelations, Kenyans expressed outrage over the apparent security lapses at one of Africa’s busiest airports. The idea that JKIA—the country’s primary international gateway—could be used as a hub for global drug smuggling has sparked renewed calls for accountability and reforms in airport oversight.
As of now, CS Hassan Joho has not issued an official statement regarding the arrest of his aide, who investigators describe as one of the masterminds of the JKIA cocaine trafficking ring.
