Siaya County Senator, Dr. Oburu Odinga, has issued a reassuring update on the health of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is currently receiving medical attention in India.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Dr. Oburu confirmed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader had indeed been unwell but emphasised that he is now steadily recovering.

Dr. Oburu dismissed widespread rumours claiming that Raila was in critical condition or in a vegetative state, clarifying that the former premier only experienced a mild illness that necessitated treatment abroad.

“I wish to clarify this matter once and for all. There have been numerous rumours suggesting that our party leader, Raila Odinga, is gravely ill or on his deathbed. That is completely untrue,” Oburu stated.

“He is up and about, just like any other person who was slightly indisposed. He is recuperating and resting, but at no point was he in the condition being alleged,” he added.

As Raila’s elder brother, Dr. Oburu further assured Kenyans that the former prime minister’s health has greatly improved and that he is expected to return to the country soon to resume his normal political engagements.

“Very soon, you will see him back home. He is in India—let no one mislead you that he is in the United States or Dubai, as some have claimed,” he clarified.

Earlier, there had been speculation that Raila Odinga was hospitalised at the King’s College Hospital London branch in Dubai. Other unverified reports had even falsely claimed that the veteran opposition leader had passed away following an undisclosed illness.

Dr. Oburu’s statement now puts those rumours to rest, assuring Kenyans that Raila Odinga is alive, well, and on the road to full recovery.
