President William Ruto is reportedly working tirelessly behind the scenes to prevent the opposition from uniting ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

The united opposition front is being championed by several prominent figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua, and Democratic Action Party boss Eugene Wamalwa, among others.

With Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Matiang’i all positioning themselves as potential presidential candidates, President Ruto is said to view them as serious threats to his bid for re-election.

Reliable sources reveal that the Head of State is allegedly spending millions of shillings to plant moles within opposition ranks to derail any plans of forming a strong and united alliance.

Among the individuals reportedly used to undermine the opposition are Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, and former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.

The trio is said to have been tasked by state operatives with pretending to support the opposition while secretly leaking critical information to the presidency.

It is alleged that Ngunjiri Wambugu, who once served as Gachagua’s personal aide, received a Sh100 million inducement to abandon Gachagua during his impeachment saga. However, like the proverbial phoenix, Gachagua made a strong comeback and has since re-emerged as one of the most influential political figures in the country.

After failing to politically neutralise Gachagua, Ngunjiri is now believed to have shifted his focus to the Jubilee Party, with the aim of undermining Fred Matiang’i’s presidential ambitions from within.

On Tuesday, Ngunjiri was spotted alongside Matiang’i during the Jubilee Party’s National Executive Council meeting held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

Following the meeting, many Kenyans took to social media to caution Matiang’i, warning that his presidential dream could face a major setback if he continues to associate with Ngunjiri Wambugu, who has a reputation for betrayal and is suspected of being a government mole embedded in the opposition.

Below is a photo of Fred Matiang’i in conversation with Ngunjiri Wambugu, who is believed to be secretly working for President Ruto.
