Chaos rocked Mathira after a youthful politician and outspoken ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua went missing under unclear circumstances.
The politician, identified as Lawrence Gachuru, reportedly vanished shortly after claiming that he had received threats from Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi.
Residents say he was last seen heading out to deposit money near his home—but he never returned.

His sudden disappearance has sparked outrage among locals, who poured into the streets on Monday morning in protest.
Waving placards and chanting slogans, the angry crowd accused the MP of intimidation and demanded that authorities move swiftly to trace Gachuru’s whereabouts.
Police were forced to intervene as the demonstrations escalated, with protestors blocking roads and lighting bonfires in parts of Mathira.
