Wiper Democratic Movement Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto, urging him to stop sending emissaries attempting to woo him into joining the broad-based government.
According to Kalonzo, the president has, for the past six months, been persistently reaching out through intermediaries, pleading with him to abandon the opposition alliance and join forces with the Kenya Kwanza administration in preparation for the 2027 General Election.
President Ruto has in recent months successfully courted several influential figures, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and KANU chairman Gideon Moi, all of whom have thrown their weight behind his administration ahead of the upcoming polls.
However, speaking during a political rally in Manyatta, Embu County, on Saturday, Kalonzo firmly rejected any suggestion that he would follow in their footsteps, describing those who have joined Ruto as “betrayers of the Kenyan people.”
“William Ruto should stop bothering me. Every day they think Kalonzo is Gideon Moi. That’s not possible, so he should stop disturbing me. If Ruto wants to talk to Kalonzo, there’s a family—he should go ask Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua,” Kalonzo declared, making it clear that any discussions must follow proper political channels.
The veteran politician reaffirmed his commitment to the opposition’s cause, insisting that their coalition remain steadfast in its mission to “liberate the nation from the yoke of failed leadership.”
Kalonzo went on to accuse the Kenya Kwanza government of promoting loyalty over competence and punishing leaders who express dissenting opinions—actions he warned could endanger democracy and national unity.
“This is not the Kenya we fought for. We will not sit back and watch as one man turns this country into his personal kingdom. We must resist through unity and peaceful mobilization,” he said, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.
The Wiper leader also urged unregistered citizens to enlist as voters ahead of the next election, emphasising that civic participation is the cornerstone of accountability and democracy.
He concluded his address with a rallying call for unity and hope:
“When we rise together, no mountain is too high. When we rise together, no government can suppress us. Kenya will stand tall again.”
