Celebrated media personality Muthoni wa Kirumba, widely known as Baby Top, set the stage ablaze in Germany during the much-anticipated Ngemi Festival.
Baby Top, a popular radio host at Kameme FM, had travelled to Europe to serve as the event’s official MC. She was joined by other well-known figures, including her partner and Mugithi star Waithaka wa Jane, as well as DJ Dibul.
However, the vibrant cultural celebration did not come without its share of drama.
Upon arrival in Germany, Waithaka was detained by airport authorities for over five hours. Speaking later about the incident, he revealed that the officers suspected him of drug possession — a claim that quickly sparked heated debate on social media.
To add to the confusion, rumours began circulating online alleging that the Ngemi Festival had been cancelled and that Waithaka’s visa might not have permitted him entry into the country.
Throughout the ordeal, Baby Top stood firmly by his side, offering support and helping him navigate the situation until he was finally cleared to proceed and attend the festival.
When the big day arrived on Saturday, Baby Top delivered an electrifying performance as MC, just as she had promised. She kept the crowd fully engaged, introducing performers with infectious energy and bringing the audience to life.
At one point, she interacted with the crowd, asking if anyone had travelled back to Kenya recently while sharing greetings from home.
Before she could continue, the atmosphere shifted as the audience broke into loud chants of “Wantam! Wantam! Wantam!”—a slogan closely linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, now a vocal critic of President William Ruto.
The chant carries a powerful political message, suggesting that President Ruto will serve only one term and fail to secure re-election in 2027.
Here is a video of Kenyans chanting ‘Wantam’ during Ngemi’s Festival in Germany.
