It has now been confirmed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is receiving medical attention at King’s College Hospital in London, though details of his illness remain undisclosed.

Raila is said to have departed the country last Friday, and on Saturday a photograph surfaced showing him seated in the waiting area of the hospital’s Dubai branch. In the image, the veteran politician appeared cheerful as he posed beside Awendo Member of Parliament Walter Owino, who was seated to his left.

This came despite a statement issued on Sunday by the Orange Democratic Movement, which insisted that the former premier was “fit as a butcher’s dog”. The circulating photo, however, suggested otherwise. A closer examination confirmed that the octogenarian leader had indeed visited the facility to seek treatment.

A background check revealed that while King’s College Hospital is headquartered in London, it operates several branches across the Middle East, including in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The institution is renowned for its state-of-the-art medical technology and highly qualified specialists, making it one of the most prestigious medical centers in the world. Its range of services is extensive, covering advanced orthopedic procedures such as joint replacements, spinal surgery, sports medicine, and pediatric orthopedics, among many others.

Costs of Treatment

Medical care at King’s College Hospital does not come cheaply. Consultation fees typically range between KSh 74,000 and KSh 120,000 (USD 575–900) per visit, depending on the condition being treated.

The hospital also offers premium executive health checks. For patients above the age of 40, these packages cost approximately AED 3,700 (KSh 130,000) for men and AED 4,200 (KSh 148,000) for women. For those aged 60 and above, a comprehensive physical check-up can rise to AED 5,800 (about KSh 204,000) if paid in cash.

King’s College Hospital thus stands as a facility reserved largely for the wealthy, providing not only elite medical services but also the highest level of patient care.

Here are some photos of the King’s College London Hospital Dubai branch.
