A night of wild partying in Upper Hill has landed a Nairobi man behind bars after he failed to pay a staggering hotel bill of KSh 32,760.

Qurine Omondi Muteshi was sentenced to two months in jail or a fine of KSh 30,000 after pleading guilty to obtaining credit by false pretenses at Vibanda Village on October 3.

According to the prosecution, Omondi arrived at the popular joint in high spirits and began ordering rounds of drinks, food, and water for himself and several friends.

As the night went on, the celebrations got out of hand, and the bill ballooned to KSh 32,760.

When it was time to pay, the merry-maker reportedly slipped out quietly, leaving hotel staff shocked.

The management later reported the incident to police, leading to his arrest.

In court, Omondi admitted that he “lost control” during the celebration, blaming the influence of alcohol and peer pressure.

“I was surrounded by ladies asking for drinks. When I came back to my senses, everyone had disappeared, and I was left with the bill,” he lamented.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, while sympathizing with his situation, ruled that failure to pay for services rendered is a criminal offence, sentencing him to two months in jail or a fine of KSh 30,000.

The incident has sparked online jokes and debate, with many calling it a classic case of “Nairobi showing someone dust”.
