Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and her Embu counterpart, Governor Cecily Mbarire, of allegedly hiring goons to disrupt his political rallies held over the weekend in Embu and Kirinyaga counties.
According to Gachagua, groups of rowdy youths armed with crude weapons attempted to interrupt his meetings in Makutano and Embu Town on Saturday. The disturbances, however, were swiftly contained by his supporters, who reportedly overpowered the hired attackers. Some of the goons were chased away, while others are said to have suffered a beating from the angry crowd.
Addressing residents after the fracas, Gachagua, who was flanked by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Democratic Action Party (DAP) leader Eugene Wamalwa, and People Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, directly accused Governors Waiguru and Mbarire of orchestrating the chaos.
He further alleged that the two governors were acting at the behest of President William Ruto in an effort to sow division within the Mount Kenya region.
“President Ruto knows that a united Mount Kenya poses a serious threat to his 2027 re-election bid,” Gachagua claimed. “That is why he is using leaders like Waiguru and Karinda to create disunity among our people.”
In his characteristic blunt style, Gachagua did not mince his words, lashing out at the two county bosses with a biting rhetorical question:
“Wewe Gavana Waiguru, wewe Karinda, kwani nyinyi hamna akili?” (Governor Waiguru, Karinda, do you have no sense?)
