For the last four decades, Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi has prided itself on offering luxurious and dignified services, including a serene chapel of rest and a fleet of high-end hearses.
Located within Nairobi Hospital, the facility has earned a reputation as the final resting place for some of Kenya’s most prominent and influential figures. Among those who have passed through its care are the late Presidents Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, former Cabinet Ministers, and notable corporate executives.
The home provides comprehensive funeral services to a wide range of clients, serving both local residents and the international expatriate community.
However, what many may not know is that Lee Funeral Home—despite its prestige—has the capacity to store only 12 bodies at a time. This has raised questions among Kenyans about where the numerous bodies it handles daily are actually kept, as the facility reportedly receives hundreds each day for preparation and preservation before burial.
Some Kenyans have speculated that the bodies might be cramped in storage areas, much like what is said to occur at the City Mortuary.
We can now authoritatively report that Lee Funeral Home operates several off-site warehouses across Nairobi, where bodies are stored and treated before being transferred to the main parlour along Argwings Kodhek Road.
One of these warehouses is located along Ngong Road, another along Enterprise Road in the Industrial Area, and a third along Kangundo Road in Nairobi.
