ODM Governor Says Gachagua Was The Source Of His Problems—Vows To Deal With Him Mercilessly When They Meet Again

An outspoken Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) governor has blamed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for the problems affecting him and his constituents.

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Gusii Stadium, Kisii County Governor Simba Arati said Gachagua was responsible for administrative difficulties that have affected both him and his people. Arati alleged that, while Gachagua was Deputy President, he ordered the police to arrest him, creating bad blood between the county and national government officials.

He added that Gachagua had demanded that he kneel before him, a demand he refused, and that this refusal led to intimidation by police and other senior government officials. Arati vowed to deal ruthlessly with Gachagua should they meet again, saying he is now politically mature.

Arati, who is also ODM deputy chairman, stated that he will work with President William Ruto’s government to ensure his electorate benefits from central government development programmes. He said he will not allow other regions to reap the rewards of cooperating with Ruto, insisting that Kisii County residents must also receive their share of national government benefits.

“As your governor, I will not sit and watch development being taken to Homa Bay and other counties. We must milk this broad-based government until it runs dry. If that upsets you, you can ‘burst.’”
