Tanzanian Dictator Samia Suluhu On ICC Radar For Killing Over 3,000 Protestors

Newly sworn-in Tanzanian dictator Samia Suluhu is now under the radar of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for allegedly ordering the killing of more than 3,000 protestors who took to the streets after the disputed presidential election held on October 29, 2025.

In that election, Suluhu, who had strategically placed her loyalists as presidential candidates while barring opposition contenders from participating, declared herself the winner with a staggering 98 percent of the vote.

Following the announcement, millions of Tanzanians poured into the streets to protest what they described as a sham election. However, the police and military brutally crushed the demonstrations, leaving more than 3,000 people dead, according to Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), the main opposition party, and several human rights organisations.

On Monday, dozens of mass graves were reportedly discovered in Arusha, Dodoma, and Dar es Salaam, as the Suluhu administration allegedly tried to conceal evidence of the killings from the public.

In a formal letter to the ICC, CHADEMA urged the Hague-based court to launch an independent investigation into what it termed as the “mass killings” of innocent citizens by state security forces following the disputed election.

“We appeal to the international community, especially the United Nations and the International Criminal Court (ICC), to urgently conduct an independent investigation into these killings committed by the government of Tanzania against its citizens and to take appropriate action,” the letter read.

CHADEMA’s Secretary-General, John Mnyika, also condemned the government’s response, saying:

“We strongly condemn the unnecessary use of force by the security organs of Tanzania against demonstrators who chose to exercise their constitutional and legal right to peacefully protest against the illegal exercise of the so-called elections.”

Sources at The Hague have since revealed that the ICC is considering launching a full-scale probe into the atrocities committed in Tanzania, which could lead to the indictment of Suluhu and her inner circle.

“We are deliberating on the issue, and soon we will dispatch a team to investigate the atrocities and war crimes that were committed in Tanzania by Samia Suluhu and her merchants of death,” said a source at the ICC prosecutor’s office.
