Masshouse nightclub, a popular entertainment spot located within Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi, is back in the spotlight.

Not long ago, the club was linked to a controversial case involving the death of a Strathmore University student, with early reports suggesting the incident may have followed an altercation.

Since then, revellers have repeatedly raised concerns online about security lapses, the conduct of bouncers and claims of excessive force in past incidents.

Reports of theft inside the club remain frequent, with patrons repeatedly losing phones and personal belongings while management offers little to no intervention.

There have been multiple instances in which affected patrons have publicly demanded access to CCTV footage in an effort to trace missing items, as similar incidents recur with no clear resolution from the establishment.

Over the weekend, Masshouse reportedly experienced a stampede during the “Everyday People Nairobi” event, a night showcasing R&B, Hip-Hop, Afrobeats, and Amapiano music.

Thankfully, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported but the incident has reignited discussions about the club’s safety protocols.

The recurring safety issues suggest more than just bad luck.

The upscale nightclub reportedly owned by a prominent businesswoman with extensive political and social connections continues to attract criticism as recent events reveal ongoing failures in safety management.

When a venue repeatedly makes headlines for incidents that put patrons at risk, questions arise about the adequacy of security measures, crowd control and emergency response planning.

Patrons should be able to enjoy Nairobi’s nightlife without fear, so what steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future?
