Kenyans woke up to shocking news on Saturday morning: former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo had died in a tragic accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway in Naivasha.

Reports indicate that Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz collided head-on with a Climax bus traveling from Busia to Nairobi. Early accounts suggest that Jirongo, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, died instantly.

However, his family has raised serious doubts about the official narrative. Led by former Westlands MP Fred Gumo, with assistance from George Khaniri, the family is demanding a thorough investigation into Jirongo’s final hours.

“We are demanding answers. The family wants answers,” Gumo said. “He was traveling from Karen to his home in Gigiri. How did he end up all the way in Naivasha?”

According to Gumo, Jirongo had left Karen intending to return to his Gigiri residence, a short drive within Nairobi. Yet, he somehow ended up hundreds of kilometers away on a major highway in the early hours of the morning.

Adding to the mystery, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed meeting Jirongo earlier that evening at a restaurant in Karen during Jamhuri Day celebrations. Wetang’ula described their interaction, between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm, as a routine conversation between longtime political colleagues, with no indication it would be their last encounter.

“I told him I was going to rest because the next day I was traveling,” Wetang’ula stated.

The story takes a darker turn with allegations from ODM loyalist Nuru Okanga, who claims that Jirongo was physically assaulted by Wetang’ula’s bodyguard and cousin, John Maloba, at Oasis Hotel in Karen, just hours before the fatal accident. A chilling video released by Okanga reportedly shows Maloba pushing Jirongo to the ground, raising questions about the circumstances leading to his death.

These revelations have sparked nationwide speculation: Was Cyrus Jirongo killed in Karen and his death staged as an accident in Naivasha? The calls for a transparent investigation continue to grow louder, as Kenyans demand answers.
