Kenyans were shocked on Saturday morning following the tragic death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, who lost his life in a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway near Naivasha.

Reports indicate that Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz collided head-on with a Climax bus traveling from Busia to Nairobi. According to friends, Jirongo had reportedly consumed alcohol prior to the crash and died instantly at the scene.

However, his family has raised serious concerns over the circumstances surrounding his death. Led by former Westlands MP Fred Gumo and supported by George Khaniri, the family is demanding a thorough investigation to clarify Jirongo’s final movements.

“We are demanding answers. The family wants answers,” Gumo said. “He was travelling from Karen to his home in Gigiri. How did he end up all the way in Naivasha?”

Gumo emphasized that Jirongo had left Karen intending to return to his Gigiri residence—a short drive within Nairobi. The family questions why he ended up far outside the city on a major highway in the early hours of the morning.

The claims were partially corroborated by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who confirmed that he met Jirongo earlier that evening at a restaurant in Karen during Jamhuri Day celebrations. Wetang’ula described their interaction, which occurred between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm, as routine and uneventful.

“There was nothing unusual about our meeting, and no indication it would be our last encounter. I told him I was going to rest, as I had to travel the next day,” Wetang’ula stated.

Despite this, ODM supporter Nuru Okanga has made shocking allegations in a video circulating online. Okanga claims that Jirongo was allegedly assaulted by Wetangula’s bodyguard, John Maloba, who is also Wetangula’s cousin, during their meeting at Oasis Hotel in Karen.

According to Okanga, Maloba pushed Jirongo to the ground, which may have contributed to his eventual death in Naivasha.

The video has reignited debates and calls for a detailed investigation into the events leading to Jirongo’s untimely demise.

Here is the video.
