Reports circulating online allege that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was briefly detained during an official visit to Saudi Arabia after alcohol was reportedly found in his luggage.
The incident is said to have occurred on Friday, December 19, 2025, while the Senator was part of an official delegation from the Senate Committee on Energy touring the Middle Eastern country.
According to the claims, Saudi authorities confiscated Senator Sifuna’s passport at the airport following the discovery, citing the country’s strict laws prohibiting alcohol.
The situation reportedly required diplomatic intervention, with the Kenyan Ambassador stepping in to facilitate his release.
The alleged incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with some users highlighting the irony of the situation.
Commentators noted that despite Senator Sifuna’s frequent public criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, it was the Kenyan Government that reportedly intervened to assist him while abroad.
