Police in Migori County have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer who was found dead in her home in Nyahera Village, Suna East Sub-County, in the early hours of Christmas Day.
The officer, 2nd Lieutenant Synthia Awuor Mboya, 28, was on pass leave from Gilgil Barracks at the time of the incident.
According to police reports, her body was discovered lying in a pool of blood inside the house, bearing deep cut wounds and signs of strangulation.
Authorities further indicated that two mobile phones were missing from the residence, raising suspicions that the assailants may have taken them after the attack.
Ms. Mboya’s husband told detectives that he arrived home from Migori town at around 1:00 a.m. and found the house doors open before making the shocking discovery.
He immediately alerted neighbours and reported the incident to the police.
The body was moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigators work to establish the motive behind the killing and identify the perpetrators.
Police have assured the public that the matter is being treated with urgency and have appealed for information from members of the public who may have relevant leads.
The late officer’s colleagues and neighbours have described her as disciplined and hardworking, as the community comes to terms with the tragic loss.
Investigations remain ongoing.
