Suna East Member of Parliament and Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has dismissed claims that he was responsible for paying election agents during the last general election, stating that the funds were held by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, his brother Muhoho Kenyatta, and their associate Patrick Mburu.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Junet clarified that his role in the campaign was strictly political, not financial.
He explained that he was tasked with campaigning for Raila Odinga and mobilising voters across the country, and was never involved in handling or disbursing money meant for agents.
“Pesa za agents zikona Uhuru na Muhoho Kenyatta pamoja na mfanyakazi wao Patrick Mburu. My role was not to pay agents but to campaign for Raila and engage with the people,” Junet stated.
Junet questioned why blame had been directed at him, arguing that his role during the campaign was highly visible and confrontational, rather than behind-the-scenes financial coordination.
“Didn’t you see me abusing people?” he posed, suggesting that his aggressive political style placed him at the forefront of rallies and public engagements, not administrative or financial operations.
He further claimed that he is being unfairly targeted because of his close association with the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, saying his visibility and loyalty to the veteran opposition figure have made him an easy scapegoat for frustrations surrounding unpaid agents.
