The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the untimely death of Corporal James Muiruri Mburu, attached to the DCI Kajiado North Sub-County, who passed away on February 21, 2026.

In a statement, the DCI extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, describing him as a “beloved son, colleague, and dedicated officer.”

The DCI also addressed misinformation circulating on social media regarding the incident.

Contrary to some reports, Corporal Muiruri did not pass away at DCI Headquarters.

The incident occurred in Ngong, where he was discovered lying unresponsive in his kitchen garden by a neighbor’s house help.

Three fellow officers rushed him to Ngong Level IV Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case was formally reported at Ngong Police Station under OB No. 38/21/02/2026.

Preliminary investigations by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, in coordination with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) personnel, revealed a live electrical wire beneath the surface of the garden.

It is believed this may have caused electrocution while Corporal Muiruri was tending the land.

A formal inquiry into the incident has been launched, and a postmortem examination is scheduled to establish the exact cause of death.
