Siaya Governor James Orengo has accused President William Ruto of attempting to “buy” the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV , Orengo claimed some people are trying to sell the party and vowed they will not allow it to happen.
“The orange is not split; people are trying to sell the orange for a price, for a few coins, and we are not going to allow that,” Orengo said.
He went further to allege that President Ruto is a “willing buyer,” claiming it is no secret that ODM activities have been facilitated by the Head of State.
Orengo pointed to instances where ODM meetings have reportedly been held at State House and even at the President’s private residence in Kilgoris.
According to the Siaya governor, the President has also been financing party activities, including a recent meeting in Mombasa.
He alleged that expenses such as air tickets, accommodation, and allowances for attendees were covered by Ruto.
Orengo also took issue with what he termed as contradictions among some political actors aligned to the so-called broad-based government.
He questioned how individuals who claim to be part of the administration can simultaneously demand financial support from it.
“The irony is that people in Linda Ground are saying they are in the broad-based government, and now they are making demands to the government that you must pay us. How can you demand payment from a government in which you are a participant?” he posed.
