Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has accused Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni of being a mole within the opposition, following controversial remarks suggesting that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua could betray opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka and Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Malala took issue with Kioni’s statement, terming it reckless and harmful to efforts aimed at uniting the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“The statement by Kioni insinuating that Gachagua will betray Matiang’i and Kalonzo was irresponsible from a leader of his stature,” Malala said.
Citizen TV host Trevor Ombija then posed the question: “But does that make him a mole?”
In response, Malala doubled down on his claims, arguing that anyone promoting narratives associated with political opponents should be treated with suspicion.
“If you are advancing the opponents’ narrative then you qualify to be a mole,” he stated.
Malala’s remarks come days after former Deputy President and DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua warned opposition leaders about alleged infiltrators within their political camps.
Speaking during a rally in Kandara, Murang’a County, Gachagua claimed that President William Ruto had planted moles in parties affiliated with key opposition figures and urged leaders to remain vigilant.
The latest remarks are likely to heighten tensions within the opposition as leaders continue efforts to build a united front ahead of the 2027 General Election.
