Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is planning to manipulate the outcome of the ongoing Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
Speaking during a press briefing, Gachagua claimed he had received intelligence reports indicating that voting was being deliberately delayed to allow polling stations to remain open beyond the official closing time, paving the way for vote counting to begin after dark.
“I am told the IEBC is now compromised. They are delaying the voting so that after 5:00 p.m. they can extend voting hours, allowing the counting process to begin after dark,” Gachagua claimed.
He urged voters not to cast their ballots after the official polling time of 5:00 p.m.
“My instruction is that polling centres must close at 5:00 p.m. If you have not voted by then, don’t bother to vote. We will have a parallel counting system so that Kenyans can follow,” he said.
Gachagua said his team would conduct a parallel tallying exercise to monitor the election results, insisting that the electoral process must remain transparent.
His remarks come amid heightened political tensions and isolated incidents of chaos reported at some polling stations during the closely watched Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
