Detectives based at Kilimani Police Station, working jointly with officials from the Chinese Embassy, raided Meteor Gardens Apartment along Kindaruma Road in Nairobi and discovered a scam centre.
According to police, the operation was conducted at House No. C1801 on the 18th floor of the apartment complex, where detectives arrested 18 Chinese nationals suspected of running a cyber fraud workstation.
During the raid, detectives recovered 39 Chinese passports, seven Malaysian passports, KSh 293,000 in cash, and 22 banknotes of Madagascar’s 20,000 denomination currency.
Police also seized electronic devices believed to have been used in the alleged operation, including seven computer CPUs, 11 Samsung desktop computers, 16 laptops, 17 keyboards, 19 computer mice, 18 USB-C ports, 16 extension cables, three Safaricom Wi-Fi routers, four UPS units, one weighing scale, seven Huawei mobile phones, one Redmi phone, and 18 iPhones.
Further investigations led detectives to three additional apartments within the same complex—F10C01, C301, and C505—which were allegedly being used as residences by the suspects.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects had entered Kenya within the last one month from several countries, including China, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Madagascar.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full extent of the alleged cyber fraud network and whether more individuals were involved.
