Detectives have launched investigations after a district accountant was robbed of KSh 600,000 by armed men moments after withdrawing the money from a KCB Bank branch in Bungoma.
According to a police report, Michael Ogolla, a district accountant attached to Sirisia Sub-County, withdrew the cash from KCB Bungoma Branch on Thursday afternoon before boarding a motorcycle.
The robbery occurred at Sukusi area along the Bungoma-Chwele Road when five men travelling in an unidentified vehicle intercepted the motorcycle.
Police said one of the suspects was armed with a pistol.
The gang forced Ogolla and the boda boda rider, Thomas Barasa, into their vehicle before driving them along a murram road to an unknown location.
The robbers reportedly stole KSh 600,000 in cash, Ogolla’s national identity card, bank withdrawal slip, and a Tecno Spark 8 mobile phone.
The boda boda rider was also robbed of his M10 mobile phone and KSh 350 in cash, while his motorcycle, a TVS Star registration number KMFM 371T, was abandoned at the scene.
The two victims were later dumped in a maize plantation in the Kimilili area before finding their way to safety.
Detectives from Kimilili Police Station visited the bank and reviewed CCTV footage as part of ongoing investigations.
Investigators believe the suspects may have had prior information about the cash withdrawal and are exploring the possibility that members of the gang monitored the transaction inside the bank before trailing the victim and carrying out the robbery.
Police are continuing with investigations to identify and arrest those behind the daring daylight attack.
