Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)’s Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU) have arrested an elderly man accused of attempting to fraudulently acquire a prime parcel of land in Nairobi’s Kilimani area using forged documents.

The suspect, identified as Caleb Miheso Ijami, initially filed a complaint alleging that another individual was unlawfully claiming his parcel of land measuring approximately 0.2718 hectares along Kilungu Road.

He claimed that he had legally acquired the property through a government allocation and had paid all the required fees.

However, investigations uncovered glaring inconsistencies in his claims.

According to the Director of Land Administration, the land in question is freehold property and was never available for government allocation.

Further forensic examination by the Government Printer established that the stand premium receipt presented by the suspect was forged.

Although it bore the year 1996, investigators found that the receipt template itself was only introduced in 1998, exposing the document as fraudulent.

Investigators also confirmed through the Chief Land Registrar that the property is legally registered to Miraflores Apartment.

Upon completion of the investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved charges against Ijami, including conspiracy to defraud, making a document without authority, and obtaining registration by false pretences.

Following an intelligence-led operation, detectives tracked down and arrested the suspect along Aga Khan Walk near KENCOM in Nairobi’s Central Business District.

He is currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
