A Kenyan man has been charged with the murder of a fellow Kenyan following the death of 24-year-old Caleb Leriano in Adelaide, South Australia.
In the early hours of March 11, 2026, emergency services responded to a single-vehicle crash in Morphett Vale, where Leriano was found critically injured inside a BMW sedan that had crashed into a Stobie pole.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although the incident was initially treated as a fatal road accident, forensic examinations later revealed that Leriano’s injuries were inconsistent with those typically sustained in a vehicle collision.
This prompted South Australia Police’s Major Crime Investigation Branch to launch a homicide investigation.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, mobile phone data and other digital evidence, leading them to allege that Leriano was fatally assaulted at Sapphire Road Reserve before driving a short distance and crashing the vehicle in what they believe was an attempt to disguise the killing as a road accident.
Alan Kiplimo, 22, was later arrested in Perth by Western Australia Police and extradited to South Australia, where he was charged with Leriano’s murder. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
Police have also searched for suspected weapons and are examining digital evidence, including communications that reportedly require Swahili translation.
Caleb Leriano relocated to Australia in March 2025 after graduating from Kenya Utalii College.
He worked as a chef in Adelaide and was remembered by his family, friends and the Kenyan community as a hardworking, compassionate and cheerful young man.
His body was later repatriated to Kenya for burial.
