Residents of Avocado Lane in Nairobi’s Karen estate were gripped by fear after a stray lion wandered into the neighborhood during the night, prompting an emergency response from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
One resident took to social media to alert the public and express frustration over what she described as a delayed response by KWS officers.
According to her post, the lion had entered her compound, forcing her family to remain indoors as they waited for wildlife officers to arrive.
“So we had a lion in my compound and tell you what… KWS guys have been coming for one hour. My driver even went to pick them up, and they kept asking how we were sure it was still there. It felt like they were just another failed institution. My kids are saying we should move immediately, but moving isn’t that simple,” she wrote.
The incident sparked concern among residents, with fears growing that the animal could pose a danger to families and pets if it remained within the estate.
Fortunately, KWS officers eventually located the lion, which the resident described as a young cub resting near a fence.
In a later update, she confirmed that the situation had been brought under control.
“Update. The lion has been found. They are waiting for the vet to come and sedate it. I can finally sleep because we are safe. It’s a mid-sized cub and not a hunter. Otherwise, today would have been a different story, including for my dogs. We are all safe,” she wrote.
