Detectives have launched investigations after a family was ambushed by six armed men and robbed of Ksh500,000 in cash shortly after withdrawing the money from a KCB Bank branch in Kimilili, Bungoma County.
According to a police Occurrence Book (OB) report, the robbery occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Ndakaru Bridge along the Chwele-Lwakhakha Road.
The family was travelling in a black Toyota Wish to Namangofulo Village, where they were reportedly headed to make the final payment for a parcel of land purchased by the family patriarch.
However, their journey was abruptly cut short after they were overtaken and intercepted by a Toyota Axio.
Six men reportedly emerged from the vehicle, armed with pistols, and ordered the family members to surrender their valuables.
The gang allegedly made away with Ksh500,000 in cash, which the victim had withdrawn earlier from KCB Bank, Kimilili Branch.
The suspects also took his Nokia mobile phone valued at Ksh24,000, while other members of the family were robbed of their personal belongings.
After the robbery, the gang reportedly sped off towards Chwele Town, leaving the shaken family behind.
Police officers visited and processed the scene as detectives commenced investigations into the daring robbery.
Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the bank and surrounding areas in a bid to establish the identities of the suspects and trace their movements before and after the robbery.
Detectives are also expected to establish how the gang knew that the family was carrying a substantial amount of cash and whether the suspects had been monitoring their movements from the bank.
The possibility that the robbers may have received information about the cash withdrawal is among the questions investigators will seek to answer as the probe continues.
