Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has responded to claims by veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli that he lacks the financial muscle to mount a successful presidential campaign.
Speaking at a political rally, Sifuna appeared to dismiss the remarks by displaying cash he said had been contributed by his supporters during the day’s activities.
“I heard Atwoli saying that I cannot be President because I don’t have enough money to run a campaign,” Sifuna said.
The vocal Senator then told the crowd that he wanted to demonstrate the kind of financial support he was receiving from ordinary Kenyans.
“I want to show you the money we have received from the public today. This is the money we have collected in Butere and Ikolomani,” he added.
His remarks appeared to be a direct response to Atwoli’s earlier comments questioning whether Sifuna had the financial resources required to run a presidential campaign.
Sifuna has in recent months increasingly positioned himself as a potential presidential contender ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He has been traversing the country to popularise the Linda Mwananchi movement, a political outfit that has vowed to oust President William Ruto from power.
