Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has exposed secret details of his meeting with his predecessor Rigathi Gachagua.
Addressing Mount Kenya East leaders at a political event also attended by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku on Saturday, Kindiki said that when he was Interior Cabinet Secretary, he held secret meetings with Gachagua before he was impeached by the National Assembly and Senate and removed from office.
“I came to visit you many nights when I was the Interior Cabinet Secretary and told you to be loyal to the President so that in the future you could also be in his position,” Kindiki stated.
He said he urged the former deputy president to remain loyal to the President, arguing that doing so could position him to occupy the presidency in the future. However, Kindiki said Gachagua dismissed the advice and told him that he did not understand what he was talking about.
“But you despised me and told me I don’t know what I was saying. Now you are making noise from the outside,” he said.
The second in command said he had tried to help Gachagua avoid being removed from office but warned that he would not disclose further details unless pushed to do so.
“Your overconfidence is what removed you from office, and I had told you. I do not want to be like you; do not push me to expose the secret of how I tried to help you,” Kindiki said.
The remarks come after Gachagua recently distanced himself from Kindiki, saying he no longer considered the Deputy President his brother and telling Kindiki not to use the term when referring to him.
