Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence following earlier claims by President William Ruto that he orchestrated the murder of a young pregnant woman identified as Maureen Njeri.
Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence, where he hosted a delegation, Gachagua distanced himself from the allegations and acknowledged that he knew the late Maureen.
Gachagua claimed that he sponsored Maureen’s education and later helped her secure a job at an MCA’s office.
“I am the one who educated her and even secured her job,” Gachagua said, adding that Maureen’s mother was well known to him and that they remain friends to date.
The former Deputy President accused Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi of misleading the President with unverified rumours.
Gachagua insisted that Maureen died in an accident and dismissed claims linking him to her death.
“She died in an accident. It is unfortunate that Wamumbi fed the President gossip and he went to spread them publicly,” Gachagua said.
He urged President Ruto to exercise caution when making public statements based on allegations that have not been verified.
The remarks come amid heightened political exchanges between Gachagua and the Kenya Kwanza administration, with the former Deputy President continuing to challenge claims made against him.
