Former Deputy President and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that goons hired to cause violence during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay last weekend were shortchanged, receiving far less than what they had been promised.
Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence where he hosted a delegation, Gachagua claimed that the goons had been promised Ksh 10,000 each for their role in unleashing violence on innocent members of the public and leaders allied to the Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement.
However, they ended up receiving only Ksh 4,000.
“Goons were shortchanged. They were given Ksh 4,000 instead of Ksh 10,000,” Gachagua said while divulging details on how the Homa Bay violence was reportedly planned.
According to Gachagua, a senior government official holding a position in the security docket dished out Ksh 60 million to be distributed among the goons.
The former DP suggested that the funds were meant to finance chaos and disrupt the rally, which was organized by the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Gachagua further claimed that when police intercepted the goons through an intelligence-led operation two days before the rally, senior government officials issued orders for their release.
“The police were very demoralized,” Gachagua alleged, adding that officers had done their work professionally, only to receive orders from above to set the suspects free.
