The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has responded to a report by KTN claiming that an officer who seized IEBC voter registration materials being ferried to Uganda in a private vehicle was threatened and later transferred.
In a statement, the investigating agency said it had noted with grave concern the report, describing the claims as false, inaccurate and wholly without foundation.
According to the DCI, no officer was transferred as reported by KTN and the Standard Newspaper, adding that the publication was false.
The DCI further raised concern over the timing of the report as the country heads to the 2027 General Election and claimed that KTN did not seek its right of reply before publishing the story.
“Responsible journalism on matters of national unity and electoral integrity requires verification and an opportunity for the institution concerned to respond,” the statement read.
The DCI said it remains committed to respecting the rule of law and supporting a free, fair, transparent and credible electoral process.
It further urged media houses and practitioners to exercise the highest standards of responsibility and professionalism when reporting on sensitive electoral and security matters.
