Congolese music legends Koffi Olomide and Mbilia Bel reportedly brought their rivalry to Kenya during Fred Obachi Machokaa’s highly publicised show, with backstage drama threatening to overshadow the much-anticipated event.
Unknown to many fans, what was happening backstage was reportedly only known to the organisers and insiders.
According to accounts from the event, Mbilia Bel was scheduled to perform at 8:35 pm, followed by Koffi Olomide at 10:30 pm. However, delays forced the organisers to adjust the programme.
When 10:30 pm arrived, both Koffi and Mbilia were reportedly ready to take the stage. Mbilia was allegedly asked to wait for Koffi to perform first to help manage time, but she reportedly refused.
Her team is said to have insisted that she perform, creating a tense situation that organisers struggled to control.
At one point, the organisers reportedly told her to leave the stage programme and promised to pay her despite not performing.
However, Mbilia stood her ground and eventually performed, giving fans a glimpse of what had been unfolding behind the scenes.
Koffi Olomide and Cindy, on the other hand, were reportedly frustrated and allegedly refused to cooperate with the organisers.
The tension spilled onto the stage when Fred Obachi Machokaa attempted to get Koffi to dance with him, triggering an awkward moment.
Koffi was also reportedly expected to cut a cake marking Machokaa’s 50 years in the entertainment industry, but he allegedly declined.
The backstage disagreements and onstage tension have since raised questions about what really happened during the hyped show, with the reported rivalry between the two Congolese music stars adding another layer of drama to the event.
