Maurice Ogeta, the longtime bodyguard of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has revealed that he lost KSh 14.7 million when he was abducted in 2023 during the Azimio-led anti-government protests.
Ogeta said the money was his personal savings accumulated over the years and was kept in his car when his captors abducted him and made away with it.
Speaking during an interview with NTV, Ogeta described the loss as a major financial setback, saying it wiped out years of hard work and pushed him back financially.
“I lost Sh14.7 million when I was abducted; it was in the car, and they took it. It took me 10 years back because those were my savings,” he said.
The longtime bodyguard also revealed that his boss, Raila Odinga, cancelled a planned trip to London after learning that he had been abducted.
“My boss Raila Odinga cancelled his London trip after hearing I was abducted,” Ogeta disclosed, adding that he had been scheduled to travel to London with the former Prime Minister when the incident occurred.
During the 2023 incident, Ogeta was reportedly abducted while driving to work before being taken to an unknown destination.
He was later dumped in Ruai, along Kangundo Road.
