Maurice Ogeta, the longtime bodyguard of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has revealed the extraordinary level of trust his boss had in him, saying he could pick him up in his personal car and drive him around without necessarily having a specific destination.
Speaking during a candid interview with Citizen TV, Ogeta recalled how Raila trusted him so much that they would sometimes drive around aimlessly, with neither of them knowing where they would head next.
The former bodyguard said there were moments when he struggled to figure out where to take Raila or how to keep him away from the public eye, particularly during uncertain situations.
Despite the challenges, Ogeta said Raila would encourage him not to be distracted by rumours and propaganda, reminding him that it was impossible to completely hide from the government.
“My boss used to say that you can’t hide away from the government. I remember there was a day he told me, ‘Maurice, stop listening to this propaganda and rumours,’” Ogeta recounted.
His revelations offer a rare glimpse into the private relationship between Raila and the man who spent years protecting him and remained close to him away from the political limelight.
Ogeta’s account also highlights the level of confidence Raila placed in him, allowing the two to share moments away from the usual security routines and political engagements.
