Detectives from the DCI headquarters’ Operation Action Team (OAT) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), alongside their counterparts from the DCI Nakuru Regional Office, have apprehended eight suspects tied to a spate of brazen highway robberies targeting courier companies.

These incidents have resulted in the loss of millions worth of goods in transit belonging to innocent Kenyans and have been reported at various police stations, including Mai Mahiu, Kipkelion, Londiani, and Nakuru.

Investigations have uncovered a sophisticated and organised gang of approximately fifteen members, linked forensically to over five incidents.

This notorious syndicate boasts networks in both Nairobi and Kisumu, employing a strategy that involves masquerading as DCI and KRA officers conducting inspections, while equipped with police radio calls and armed.

The gang’s modus operandi is stopping vehicles transporting goods under the guise of law enforcement, escorting them to secluded areas, unlawfully detaining them, and then transferring the cargo to another waiting vehicle before vanishing without a trace.

Following this, detectives launched a meticulously coordinated operation that led to the arrest of eight suspects forensically linked to the robberies.

Those apprehended are Churchill Winston Amimo, found in possession of a police radio call; Faisal Abdul, aka Ras, the owner of the silver Subaru Outback (KCW 394F) used in committing the crimes; Francis Kilai; John Otieno Budi; Joseph Mwata, the owner of another silver Subaru Outback (KCY 060 C) also tied to the crimes and found with a police radio call; Churchill Amimo; David Aseka, Amos Omondi and Kelvin Kiprotich Ndiema.

Six suspects: Churchill Amimo, Joseph Mwata, David Aseka, Faisal Abdul, Francis Kilai and Kelvin Kiprotich Ndiema, were arraigned before the Nakuru Law Courts, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They were granted a bond of KSh250,000 each, and the case is scheduled for mention on July 13, 2026.

The remaining two suspects, Amos Omondi and John Otieno Budi, remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Meanwhile, detectives continue to pursue additional leads to trail and apprehend other members of the syndicate who remain at large.
